Avatar Land Pandora Floating Mountains Rocks Arrive At Disney's Animal Kingdom

At Disney's Animal Kingdom the making of Pandora "floating mountains" continues and, after the building of the metallic structures, the main elements are arriving. Good luck for Disney and more readers as Geert, a good friend of mine photographer - see previous article with his amazing WDW pictorial report - was there yesterday when a crane was lowering one of the rocks of these floating mountains.

Obviously the rocks are prepared in another location and then each will be fixed one by one to the metallic structures, to form at the end the floating mountains, which is a pretty smart way to create these mountains, and even probably the only way to do it...

First view of the rock from backstage...

Closer shots from inside the park...

This last picture was shot by Geert from the top of Expedition Everest!

Thanks a lot to Geert for his special report!

I'm very curious to see how these floating rocks will actually look once the Avatar project is complete

I think they've found a way to have the rocks looking exactly like they do in the movie. And it's a pretty smart way to do them.

I drove past again today, and saw the Rock ánd the crane are still in the same position as a few days ago, probably the only way to support the structure is by keeping that crane there for a while until everything is secured. The rest of the beams are still exposed.

I have the feeling Disney is placing this particular 'top-rock' there on purpose before all the others just to create buzz..
And it works, because it's already here on Disney and more ;)

Thanks Alain for publishing my snaps! Cheers, and keep up your fantastic work!

Today at the IAAPA expo here in Orlando I talked to 'someone' and had confirmed what I already thought; the supporting beams that support the rocks will be covered by vines/lianas in a similar fashion as they did with the Swiss family treehouse, or the Tarzan treehouse. It will then create the illusion the rocks are hanging in the air..
